Fauna: Macerata, a pair of Lapwing has nested in Scossicci in the Municipality of Portorecanati.
After a few unsuccessful attempts in the past years, a pair of lapwings finally nested in the province of Macerata in Località Scossicci in the Municipality of Portorecanati. An event of great naturalistic value as there are no other reports on the matter; the nesting took place in an artificial lake prepared for the aquatic hunting, a small wetland of exceptional naturalistic value, given that in the Province of Macerata we have no natural marsh environments and the only wetlands suitable for stopping and for a possible nesting of birds linked to these habitats are those restored by hunters with large investments both economic and maintenance. On this occasion the nesting of the Lapwing was also successful thanks to the sensitivity of the Provincial Police Commander Major Alberto Storani who authorized, as expressly provided for by current legislation, a control of the "hooded crow" and "magpie" species present in excessive numbers in this area on the border with the Parco del Conero, which without effective control could prey on the young of lapwing.
Once again, the restoration of the environment and the management of the territory have been the key to the effective protection of wildlife. The time for pharaonic words or projects is over which in fact are never realized, now we need to move on to concrete facts and the one described is an example of this.
The many small wetlands restored in recent years by hunters have allowed the return along the river courses of many aquatic species and could even more be enhanced, allowing in the spring the guided tours of school groups who could observe species of great naturalistic interest such as Knights of Italy, Avocets, Godwits, Piro Piro, Chiurli and Mignattai.
