According to reports from Lucia Venturi, Chairman of the Maremma Regional Park, in this area of Tuscany i boars they decreased by 50%, while as regards i fallow deer a -40% was recorded. The numbers refer to the protected area and according to Venturi itself are the result of the containment plans adopted by the body. The president wanted to bring some clarity later some rumors that had shown a completely different situation.
The problem exists, but the Maremma Park recalled the plan that is approved every year to manage wildlife. In addition, withdrawals, killing and catches make use of the contribution of the scientific committee. The decline in ungulates has been recorded from 2010 to today. With a numerical estimate, if eight years ago the wild boars were between 1600 and 2 thousand heads, today they have dropped to 800-1000. As for the fallow deer, on the contrary, it has gone from 1200 to 750 units.
As a result, the damage caused by wild animals to agricultural crops is less, as both are constantly looking for food. Venturi stressed the 100% compensation that is reserved for farmers in the event of devastated crops, even if the surfaces involved have dropped thanks to the containment mentioned above.
