La Confederation of Tuscan Hunters spoke about the renewal of the agreement with the “Porto allo Stillo” ornithological station, in Marshes of Fucecchio. The time for the first budgets has already arrived and the contribution of the CCT has made it possible to keep this plant that deals with catches and ringings for scientific purposes. The information of the station is invaluable to say the least, as it is possible to understand the variations in the medium and long term trend and quality of the ecosystem.
The first quarter of 2019 was anomalous from a climatic point of view: rainfall was scarce, without forgetting the intense cold, two elements that kept the basin's water level low. The number of review birds has therefore increased, especially in the second decade of January. The presence of passerines in wintering was good, with a decreasing trend of catches as usually happens. The most captured and ringed species were the tree sparrow, swamp millet and robin.
In addition to these which alone represent about 70% of the total number of ringed animals were also captured specimens of great tit, long-tailed tit, blackcap, blackbird, song thrush, flounder, flounder, river nightingale, kingfisher, goldfinch, finch, small whale, starling, greenfinch. All in all the result is to be considered pretty good, however, there is the absence of some species that generally winter even with numerous contingents in the reeds of the Fucecchiese swamp. The absence of blue tit and pendulum and the scarce presence of little ones it is probably due to the high temperatures recorded in the months of late 2018, encouraging many species to stop at higher latitudes.
