The management committee of theTerritorial hunting area of Pistoia has decided to start the pilot project called "Artificial Nests" in the marsh crater of Marshes of Fucecchio. The goal is to stop the continues once and for all destruction of the nests of mallards and other water birds in the period between spring and summer. It is also a response to the reports of the ordinary garrison of hunters and owners who are within this Tuscan territory.
Nests are the favorite prey of corvids, but also of foxes, wild boars and otters: in particular, rodents have recently begun to contend with the ducks for dry spaces, destroying the eggs laid or even crushing the newborn chicks. The pilot project is soon said.
Thirty nests will be installed throughout the marshy territory of Pistoiese, without forgetting the beyond 60 between hunters and owners who will be committed to ensuring the constant monitoring of the nests. Two of these will be installed in a visible manner and near the Port Casin del Lillo, so as to allow citizens, photographers and schools to personally check how the initiative is developing.
