A portion of land invaded by brambles
Orchids have appeared near the Chiaro di Bregoscia. The Arci Caccia Massa Carrara, engaged in the environmental protection, in fact, has counted stations of Ophrys maritima and Serapias neglecta during the operations of restoration and recovery to the state of wet meadow of a portion of land invaded by brambles. The purpose of the work of the volunteers, whose contact is Fabrizio Del Francia, was precisely to promote the return of some species of spontaneous orchids that, according to sources of the provincial section of Giros (Italian group for the research of spontaneous orchids), were present until the early 2000s on the site.
Threatened species
In particular, a station of Orchis laxiflorae was reported, but above all the site hosted, at least until 1996 according to what was certified in the proceedings of the scientific naturalistic society, also the only station reconfirmed by the work of Pellegrino Rossi (1942) of Orchis palustris of the Apuan province. The species appears to be seriously threatened due to the strong decline of the humid zones and is present in very few areas of Tuscany, including Lake Massaciuccoli and the retrodunal blades of the eastern pine forest of Viareggio.
A splendid bloom
The volunteer members involved in clearing the land invaded by brambles have discovered in the surrounding areas a splendid flowering of orchids of the species Ophris marittima and Serapias neglecta, species that are not rare, but nevertheless interesting and beautiful, already present and reported in the dune and back dune areas near the Casalmaggiore colony of Forte dei Marmi, whose flowering can be admired from March to April (source: Arci Caccia).
