A drastic decision
We report one of the latest social posts by Eleonora Evi, a PD deputy: "Giulia Innocenzi's report last night on Report, as always, helps us shed light where there are shadows. Since the previous investigation that uncovered connections between the deputy Michelle Brambilla and the ENCI, the Italian National Kennel Club, many questions remained unanswered. After this last service I have made a decision. I am resigning from the Intergroup for Animal Rights, chaired by Brambilla and which I had joined at the beginning of the legislature with enthusiasm, convinced that to change things for animals, as for everything, we need to overcome ideological and party barriers and find common solutions”.
No conditioning
"There are two reasons: the first, the investigation highlights the use of funds from the Leidaa association of which Brambilla is president, also for electoral initiatives, but not only, from which the association itself has drawn personal and private profits and advantages, which had nothing to do with the animal rights and environmental cause, including blue cars, luxury hotels, fine wines. A circumstance that, in addition to representing a conflict of interest, makes his figure completely inadequate for the leadership of a body, albeit informal like an intergroup, which should work free from any personal conditioning. The second reason concerns the functioning of the intergroup itself, which in over two years of work has practically never met, ineffective in coordinating any political action and not even useful in being a tool for in-depth analysis and knowledge of the many issues to be addressed".
The Italian situation
“In my experience as a MEP, I have been Vice-President of the Animal Welfare Intergroup and President of the working group for cage-free farming. The work, which not only saw regular meetings over time, was an opportunity to hear experts, present the latest scientific studies and coordinate political action, I think precisely in the case of the battle to end the use of cages, aimed at obtaining an ambitious resolution by the EP. In Italy, none of this happens”.
