Migration pass: September 2014 full of migrants. It was exactly what an ornithologist or a hunter would like in this period, an excellent passage of the most varied migratory species with migratory "peaks" of a certain importance and interest.
A September like this will be remembered, just as summer will be forgotten. The high pressure which, advancing eastwards, built this northern current over the Alps, was supplemented by the Azores anticyclone, favoring a solid bulwark against Atlantic perturbations and eliminating the possible descents of fresh air from the north-east destined in particularly to the Balkans and, marginally, to our Adriatic regions.
In this context, a post-nuptial migration of the Blackcap took place which at the FEIN Ornithological Observatory of Arosio will be remembered for its intensity and continuity until the end of the month, as happened on the 18th with 61 ringings, on the 21st with 71 ringings, of 23 with 69, of 24 with 74 and of 28 with 60 ringings.
The magnificent weather conditions also favored the passage of other migratory species, the so-called trans-Saharan, such as the Redstart, the Black Balia, the Beccafico, the Cannaiola and the Cannareccione. All species accompanied by the Song Thrush that, from the second ten days of the month, it was noted in particular on the 27th day with 26 ringings and on the 28th with 39 ringings, bearing in mind that since 23 September its presence has always exceeded 15 ringed units. Evaluating the activity at the Arosian station, even if the Pettirossi record numbers of attendance still subdued, the days spent have given strong emotions with numbers of subjects captured above a hundred.
In short, in this month exactly what an ornithologist or a hunter would like in this period has occurred: an excellent passage of the most varied migratory species with migratory "peaks" of a certain importance and interest. We hope, therefore, in days that are always so interesting and that everything will continue in this way.
