As announced byANUUMigrators, the ringing of the first Song Thrush (Turdus philomelos) in post-nuptial migration (September-October-November) 2019. This is a young specimen captured on Monday 16 September at 7.00 and immediately ringed with ring Z507128. In accordance with the Euring directives the subject was measured with the usual biometric measurements, fat, muscle, weight, chord, third and tarsus. The table below proposes the dates of first ringing since 1975 (in brackets the subjects of the same species captured during the day).
This year the ringing took place on a normal date. The latest date is that of September 21, 2006 and the earliest date is that of September 3, 1977 and 2003. The date of the first capture of this year - for those who love statistics - coincides with that of 1979 and 2012. The turdid peeped into the mist-net type networks of the Observatory on a day that turned out to be beautiful from the morning and with a hot September sun to remember for its high temperatures. And so also the week that goes from 9 to 15 September (general opening date of the hunt) did not see the massive presence of the Estatians, except for the continuous one of the Beccafico which at the FEIN Ornithological Observatory, from which these notes are taken weekly, is reaching a very interesting number of ringings.
The same situation is occurring in Friuli, where some ringers report the same data. The week just ended saw the beginning of the Pettirosso pass and, in particular, of the Capinera which, on days 11, 13 and 15, was numerous. Also, they still noticed themselves the Flycatcher and the Torticollis while in the territory under examination the Jay and the Wood pigeon show an abundant numerical presence. The first Thrush was ringed on Monday 16/09 at 7.00, as per the information note on the specific topic. The high pressure remains in general on Central Europe with considerable temperatures which still allow you to spend your evenings outdoors, a weather situation that would seem to still persist in the coming days on our peninsula. By now the ways of heaven are open for the beginning of a more consistent autumn migration.
