There are few countries left that still offer a sense of adventure and where you can still feel the thrill of walking on unspoiled land. Most of the unexplored areas of the planet have now been filled. This is not the case in Mongolia.
Mongolia (?????? ???) is the largest state in the world without access to the sea. It borders to the north with Russia and to the south with China. The capital is Ulan Bator and is the largest city, in which about 38% of the population resides. Mongolia is a parliamentary republic and with its 1.565.000 km², it is the 19th country on the planet by territorial extension (five times Italy).
The territory of Mongolia is very varied, as it passes from the Gobi desert in the south, to the cold and mountainous regions in the north and west; for the rest there is the greatest presence of steppes. The highest peak in Mongolia is the Hùjtnij peak, which is located in the Tavan Bogd massif at 4.374m. The basin of the Uvs Nuur lake, shared with the Republic of Tuva in Russia, is one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The summer climate is mild, while in winter temperatures drop to -40 ° C and -60 ° C in the taiga.
The climate of the country is also subject to severe climatic conditions and for this reason the term zud defines a particularly cold and snowy winter. The capital Ulan Bator has an average temperature among the lowest in the world, when compared with the major cities in the world. Generally Mongolia is a cold and windy country, having a continental climate, with long, cold and rigid winters, while in summer the climate becomes dry and healthy, reaching 25-30 ° C during which most of the annual rainfall occurs. . In the short summer season, the wind becomes the protagonist and the cool one from the north and the warm one from the Gobi stand out.
The immense plateau of about 1500 meters above sea level has the Altai chain to the north-west, rich in rivers and forests of Siberian birch, pine and larch, to the north coniferous forests of the last buttresses of the Siberian taiga, in the central part grassy steppes and south vast areas that merge with the sand dunes of the Gobi desert.
In such a variety of habitats, the fauna present ranges from bears, ibex, argali, maral deer, Siberian roe deer, marmots, rock partridges, black grouse, wood grouse and ptarmigan of the Altai, to partridges from sub-desert areas and a variety of over one hundred types. of birds and mammals such as the very rare snow leopard or the onager, a wild ass of the immense Gobi desert.
The best hunting reserves are located in one of the most beautiful areas of Mongolia, the Selenghe valley, one of the most complete areas for hunting black grouse, partridge and ungulates. The Selenghe valley is considered the most suitable for hunting with your dog and, without doubt, one of the best for fishing for magnificent grayling, pike, trout and incredible taimen.
Nature is all around with partridges and black grouses everywhere. The gray partridge is almost the same as the European one, but more rustic, used to defend itself from eagles and foxes, while the black grouse, identical to that of the Alps, lives here in large flocks between the plains and the tops of the hills.
Mongolia embodies the dream of a life and the entire career of a hunter, with scenarios and emotions that are imprinted on the mind forever. Some testimonies affirm that it is the best for those who love hunting with dogs and adventure, finding comfortable solutions even in the middle of the steppe.
Mongolia is an opportunity to discover the boundless space, as the gaze reaches the horizon, in an uninhabited landscape, with few roads and tracks, along which almost 1 million people move with their tents following the seasons and the livestock.
For about 10 years, some tour operators have opened the way to Mongolia for European hunters. The latter, in fact, are often housed in large Mongolian circular tents, covered with skins and furnished like real houses.
The hunting season lasts only from late August to mid-October, when the first cold winds whiten the hills heralding the long and harsh Siberian winter.
