Increase the presence of wolves in Puglia, and the alarm among the ranchers of the region for their livestock is growing. “After the slaughter in pastures and stables, now it is necessary to save the sheep”. That's what the complaint is Coldiretti Puglia, following the discovery of wounded and dead sheep especially on the Murge. "The numbers seem to confirm that the wolf by now, it is no longer in danger and - underline by Coldiretti - commit the institutions to define a national plan that looks at what other EU countries have done, such as France and Switzerland for the defense of farmers and reared animals from the wolf ".
"In the countryside there are more wild animals - denounces the president of Coldiretti Puglia, Savino Muraglia - between wolves, wild boars and wild dogs that agricultural workers and the situation is dramatic throughout the region. Within ten years the wolves have multiplied, putting at risk not only the animals in the stables and grazing, but also the very life of farmers and shepherds. In Puglia, the losses recorded in the countryside caused by wildlife are enormous, with damage equal to more than that 14 million euro".
Coldiretti Puglia considers fundamental "containment measures so as not to let the pastures die and force thousands of families to flee who for generations have populated the most difficult rural areas where livestock farming is the main activity, but also the many young people who laboriously returned to restore lost biodiversity with the recovery of the historic Apulian breeds, such as the 'Gentile' sheep from Altamura or the 'Moscia' from Lecce ".
