Who conducted the analyses
What are the consequences on karst ecosystems, and their responses, to the fire that destroyed more than 2022 hectares of forest area between Italy and Slovenia in 4.100? in the Karst? To answer these questions, the universities of Udine and Trieste, with the support of Legambiente Friuli Venezia Giulia volunteers, conducted a series of research in the areas affected by the flames.
The consequences of the fires
The results were presented today in Gorizia, in the main hall of the Santa Chiara complex during the conference “Risorgere dalle ceneri? Consequences and ecological-management perspectives of the 2022 Karst fire". One of the most interesting ideas in this sense concerns the animals of the Karst.
The animals in detail
Since the spring following the fire, the burned areas have been used with great intensity for food purposes by some species of herbivores such as roe deer and hares, less so by deer and wild boar, but with a strong increase in the non-fired areas. The various bird communities present in the burned areas also show changes compared to those present in the unaffected areas.
