For the mountain hunter, and in particular for that of Tarvisio, (which is a small corner relegated to the extreme North / East, legacy of Maria Theresa of Austria), the contrast between traditional thrusts and impositions of the so-called modern civilization.
Enclosed in himself, reduced to the corner of the study, gazing at the whistles, now raucous, with which he tried to count the Francolino di monte, competing with the Gamekeeper or the Professor on duty, he thinks of the precious animal, lost in the limbo of general oblivion and no one knows why. A sad thought is combined with a sad thought: and here is the bitter memory of the robbery of the spring hunt to the song of the Gallo Cedrone and the Gallo Forcello; bitterness sharpened by the fact that the Carinthian friends, despite having entered Europe since 1995, continue to practice in the neighboring territory the spring hunt for singing both at the Forcello and at the Cedrone. As if that were not enough, after almost five decades of meditation, the Region has issued the Regional Wildlife Plan; surprise: no hunting in the delicate mating period of ungulates! And this without any scientific support, but only because of the Apennine prudery, immediately grasped by the right-thinking technicians, it is not clear to what end. It should be added that our mountain dweller lives in constant fear of seeing the needs of the "citizens" prevail further, who obviously need healthy air and are not satisfied with ski lifts, snowshoeing, mountain huts; which are equipped with off-road vehicles and advanced technology for ultrasonic shooting and all the most advanced modern gadgets.
In conclusion, after having practically lost the battle in defense of their traditions and in the risk of losing even the final battle, the hunter of the Tarvisian mountains must now face a new impending reality: the arrival - no one knows how - of the wolf. The Tarvisian mountain hunter at the time defended himself well from the WWF / State Forestry attempt to establish the National Park for the protection (similar to that of Trento?) Of the bear. It has effectively opposed the search to embalm the territory also with the Animal Population Nature Reserve and subsequently with the Biogenetic Reserve. But so be it. Already during a research on the Black Grouse, the surprise, thirty years ago: the lynx hunting roe deer! We hoped for a spontaneous reintegration (something that the wildlife technicians do not like: it does not pay fees!). Instead, funding, studies, releases: and now the wolf. News only occasional. The technicians are savvy. But having read all the serious literature on the subject (Zunino, Modugno), let's see what appeared here and there.
January 27, 2016: intervention on television by Dr. Lapini. “Massive return of the wolf”. "Difficult coexistence, so much so that hypotheses are advanced for containment plans". "It is necessary to intervene before the wolf settles permanently and transmits negative habits to the little ones, such as the taste of pets". "In Lessinia today there are 16 wolves imprinted on cows." "They also need timely interventions because it is a complex species". “In Maremma there is a situation of hybridism (25%). It is an anarchist management fact. Here, too, we should avoid damage and that wolves develop bad habits ”. "Il Giornale - 25.2.2016": In Italy today live about 1600 wolves of which 1500 in the Apennines and just over a hundred in the Alps: 115 were found dead last year. " “Panorama 23.3.2016”: Speech by Dr. Bernardino Ragni. “Controlling the number (of wolves: nda) is simply common sense!”. "2150 wolf specimens present in Italy in official statistics: the real number - without fear of making a mistake - is double." "Beyond the percentages, the whys and the ways contained in the Plan of the Minister of the Environment (which envisages being able to kill the population of this predator by 5% per year), if this provision constitutes a first, fearful, certainly imperfect , an attempt to clear the renewable natural resource "Canis lupus italicus" from the ghetto of emotional-confessional-ideological taboos, so be it! " Appetite comes with eating, not just wolf. And so I looked for some news that in the past had tickled me, even if they were not strictly topical. It appears from the Proceedings of the II National Convention of Game Biologists (1991) that from 1972 to 1990 as many as 145 wolf corpses were found in the Apennines, even if (warn the Biologists Francisci, Boitani, Guberti, Giucci and Andreoli) it is the result of a collection that is neither systematic nor capillary. Another research, carried out from 1978 to 1988 (therefore practically simultaneously) on the biology and conservation of carnivores in Italy, the consistency of wolves is evaluated in 200 heads! (Proceedings of the XNUMXst National Conference of Game Biologists - communication by Augusto Vigna Tagliandi).
So? How do we put it?
I would say that either through FACE or as FIDC or as citizens of Europe we could (should) ask the European Commissioner to know which, how many and how much financed the "wolf projects" have been in the last thirty / forty years, that is the projects that have directly or indirectly involved the breeding, capture, restoking, placing, reintroduction of the wolf, in favor of researchers, universities, non-profit organizations, etc., etc.
Just out of curiosity. Just as it will be the case to ask the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region what it intends to do with the “Picco di Mezzodì” hunting reserve (about 700 hectares, in Tarvisio, formerly Weissenfels), after having deconstructed it with 50 euros per chamois! It could be a new "den of wolves!"
