The day of Sunday May 29 2016 it will be very important for one of the appointments already fixed by Italian Federation of Hunting in the dog field. We are talking about the Italian Championship for terriers and dachshunds on artificial lair with the stage of Mozzate (province of Como) scheduled. The organizing body of the competition is the Comasco Dog Group, with a date also set for April 17. The breed of dogs in question is not surprising, as terriers and dachshunds are usually bred in most cases for companionship, but still remain hunting breeds. This particular work test serves to reconstruct in a fairly faithful way the hunting of some species of game that exploit the dens, such as for example the badger and the fox.
The championship on an artificial den is nothing more than a test carried out in soils of not excessive dimensions and in which tunnels and artificial dens are dug. The goal, as it is easy to guess, is to allow terriers and dachshunds to search and track down game. which will then be evaluated by the judges. Each lair is dug according to the precise provisions of the regulation, with precautions from a technical point of view that allow dogs and wild animals to move properly.
The main elements to be evaluated are different: among others, we can mention the exploration work carried out in a careful way, the ability to know how to keep the track, the temperament, the physical strength of the dog, the timbre and also the cadence of the voice. The penalty in the score is instead possible in other situations: the examples are those of the abandonment of the contact with the wild animal, the fear of facing the same, the lack of physical endurance and the disinterest shown for the job test.
The competitions are held in a single class, namely the "Free" one which is open to dogs of nine months of age. In addition, don't forget that the tests themselves are divided according to race, with judging criteria that remain the same (taking into account the different physical possibilities of the various competitors). There are eight class "A" tests. We are talking about the work in the den, the entry into the den, the work at the first furnace, the work at the second furnace, the keeping on the track, the terminal furnace work, the temperament and physical endurance and finally the timbre and cadence. of the voice. The maximum score that can be obtained is 100.
