The last fact
Yet another predation by the wolf near the town of Chies d'Alpago, in via Tarcogna, in the Lamosano area, in the night between Monday and Tuesday. A sheep was mauled to death while inside the enclosure of Adriano Pedol's sheep and goat farm. The same business, moreover, suffered similar predation at the beginning of last July: that time as many as six sheep died. According to what Pedol himself reported, “it was also very complicated to get the wolf out of the fence. This makes us understand that the animal is not afraid of anyone, least of all man." In light of the latest episode, Hi Belluno takes a strong position on a critical issue that is putting the entire local agricultural sector in crisis. “First of all - observes the president of Cia Belluno, Rio Levis - a close discussion with the institutions is needed.
The difficulties of the area
I am referring, in particular, to the Provincial body and to a broader collaboration with Senator Luca De Carlo, who knows well the difficulties of the Belluno area. That is, greater availability is needed on his part. The competent authorities - this is Levis' appeal - make themselves available, immediately, for ad hoc meetings in the area together with farmers and breeders. They are the agricultural entrepreneurs, the first sentinels." The issue of wildlife, he adds, "is a problem that must be addressed and resolved definitively, for the good of the sector and the community". Among the proposals put forward by Cia Belluno, large predators must be educated to stay away from population centers and flocks: "We hope that a wolf containment plan will be reached soon." In the meantime, "the Province gives breeders and shepherds the opportunity to intervene immediately in the event of attacks through dissuasive methods, after attending specific training courses".
The large predators
“If this is already the situation now, with a limited number of wolves – underlines Levis – with daily predations, what will happen in a few months?”. The issue of the wolf, and more generally of large predators, is also becoming an emergency in terms of public safety: "The attack on Adriano Pedol's flock, the second in a few months, occurred along the road of a town, a few steps from the homes". Finally, Cia strongly supports the modification of law 157 of 1992 called Regulations for the protection of wild fauna. “This is an outdated regulation. In the current context we need to go beyond the principle of protection to that of correct management of wildlife." “It seems there is an openness on the part of the Government – concludes the president – we will continue to keep high attention on the issue in all appropriate forums” (source: CIA).
