The plan of containment of the hooded crow is stopped at the pole. And in the Province of Oristano there are repeated reports of serious damage to summer crops. The considerable pressure of the corvids in some areas is such that they attack all crops but, it is above all the fields of watermelons and melons that suffer the greatest repercussions. On average, the damage is estimated between 60 and 70% of production. A real drain for companies that compromises the production year. A problem that Coldiretti Oristano has been following for years, requiring interventions aimed at re-establishing that fundamental balance between the environment and production activities, which has been seriously compromised for some time.
The recent developments of the affair are further worrying: the Region, through the Councilor for the Defense of the Environment Gianni Lampis, urged the Province to activate the Containment Plan; the Regional Councilor Emanuele Cera also intervened in this regard. The Province rejects the accusations of inaction to the sender, giving details of the reasons impeding the activation of the plan to be sought instead in the national legislation and in the lack of measures of the Region.
In short, a rebound of responsibility that produces a single certainty, also in perspective: the number of corvids increases and work in the fields is destroyed. This is a situation that we cannot passively accept - affirms the Provincial Director Coldiretti Oristano Emanuele Spanò - The work of many farmers is compromised. So we again urged, through a letter, Region and Province of Oristano to start a work table, where Coldiretti intends to make its own effective contribution, aimed at solving the problem. We trust - concludes the Provincial President Coldiretti Oristano Giovanni Murru - in the sensitivity and attention of the institutions for the resolution of a situation that risks assuming, even in the near future, dimensions and worrying aspects.
