NO European hunters for Forza Italia, bitter comment for MEP Sergio Berlato after being excluded from the Forza Italia candidate lists at the behest of a Berlusconi perhaps too pro-animalist.
Following the exclusion from the FI lists in the European elections, Sergio Berlato expresses "disappointment" at Silvio Berlusconi's decision not to re-nominate him. A member of the European Parliament for three terms and a great hunting enthusiast, Berlato considers himself a victim of the animal rights turning point in Fi marked by the 'Dudu' Act '. “My fault is being a hunter - he tells Adnkronos - I have two dogs and a cat at home, I love animals but I am not an animalist for this. After the change sponsored by Brambilla I came into conflict with this drift ”. “I am disappointed in Berlusconi - he adds - because he had given his word and did not keep it: I give a sacred value to the given word. I do not have it with him but with those around him making him make bad choices. He is surrounded by a 'magic circle' of people who make him live on the moon and make him make decisions light years away from reality: animal rights extremism does not bring consensus, indeed it scares people. To chase the votes of a few animal rights activists, historically placed on the left, Forza Italia will lose the votes of all the representatives of the categories carrying the culture of the rural world ”.
Considering that "hunters, farmers, fishermen, ranchers, all categories of the rural world, represent millions of people nationwide", Berlusconi, argues Berlato, will lose many votes. “These are categories that with their activities guarantee income to the State: hunting gives work in Italy to more than 100 families, and the related industries create another 100 jobs. If we multiply these figures for farmers, fishermen, breeders, we arrive at important numbers in economic and cultural terms, we pass on the values of rural culture ”. The animal rights activists, on the other hand, Berlato argues, "represent very few people and in economic terms they live only on public contributions: they are mints that suck blood from the community in terms of employment, causing hundreds of miles of jobs to be lost with their fundamentalism, and in social terms. , privileging the life of a mouse over the human being. I do not know who managed to convince Berlusconi - he adds - but it is a choice that does not pay from a numerical point of view, and from an economic point of view neither ”.
But according to Berlato there would also be another reason behind his exclusion from the Forza Italia lists. "I dared to denounce the system of malfeasance in the management of public affairs in Veneto - says Berlato - asking the public prosecutor and the financial police to verify whether it was true that in Veneto in the last 15 years, public contracts have always been won by the same companies, asking to clarify whether local politicians are involved, regardless of whether they belong to the center-right or the center-left ”. As for his candidacy in the Fdi-An lists, Berlato specifies: "I am not a" ditcher ", I have always remained consistently in Forza Italia, demonstrating loyalty both after the separation of Fini and Alfano, as I have also been recognized by Berlusconi himself during the meeting convened at Palazzo Grazioli a fortnight ago with all the outgoing European deputies and in which Berlusconi himself had assured everyone to be re-nominated. Several times both Ncd and Fdi have asked me why I remain in Fi and I have always replied that having been elected in 2009 as a European parliamentarian of the PDL, I would have consistently remained in the party until the end of the term ”.
Then the news of his exclusion on Tuesday evening. “I found out about it on Tuesday night while I was in Strasbourg when my name was still on the list. I was told of a phone call to Berlusconi and at 23pm I was informed by Rome that after this phone call he would decide to exclude me from the list. I immediately set off by car and arrived in Rome yesterday because I wanted to understand the reasons for this choice ”. “But around Berlusconi there is now a kind of impenetrable curtain, I have not been able to talk to him - adds Berlato - In the afternoon I saw from the Forza Italia website that my name was not in the lists filed. I was told that my faults are that I am a hunter and that I have raised problems on the correct management of public affairs in Veneto: this, according to them, would have damaged the image of the party ”.
“I called Ignazio La Russa and asked him if their proposal was still valid, he replied 'we are waiting for you with open arms', so now I am a candidate with Fdi for the north east. I will continue to be a point of reference for hunters and rural culture - he assures - and I will continue my battle for transparency and cleanliness in public affairs, starting with Veneto ”.
