La Abruzzo region has officially announced that the wood pigeon hunting throughout the territory must be considered concluded at 6 February. This means that yesterday was the last day for the hunting and that the extension to 10 February. In particular, the non-extension was decided by the Higher Institute for Environmental Protection and Research (ISPRA), consequentially the ban has just begun.
The same situation did not reoccur last year. In fact, in February 2016 the regional council decided to extend the hunt we are talking about until 10 February (in that case, the originally scheduled date was February 2).
Also a year ago the provinces of Pescara, Chieti and Teramo sent specific requests to the Region and hunting was authorized in the form of permanent or temporary posting without using the dog. The topic is always very current in Abruzzo and such a controversial choice will not be long in arousing the reactions of the local hunting world.
