Assent
Following the changes made by the International Cynological Federation (FCI) to the standard of poodle breed with the recognition from 1 August 2024 of the new "other colours" variety breed for each size, the ENCI, with the assent of the Central Technical Commission (CTC) has defined, in compliance with the guidelines of the French Kennel Club and in agreement with the Club Cani Compagnia, the colors that fall within this variety, the permitted matings and the consequent determinations.
The expected colors
The colors envisaged by the French standard for the "other colors" variety may include tan markings, the so-called "phantom", brindling or white markings, the so-called "particolor" or "tuxedo" in the case in which the white is located on the legs , on the chest and sometimes the mask is present. Therefore, the expected coat colors are:
Black and white
Brown and white
Gray and white
Blue and white
Fawn and white
Black tuxedo
Brown tuxedo
Gray tuxedo
Blue tuxedo
Fawn tuxedo
Black and tan
Tan brown
Gray and tan
Blue and tan
Black brindle
Brown brindle

Mating procedures
The pedigree certificates of the subjects declared at birth in Form B with a coat containing "blue" will have the words "not admitted for breeding". The same applies to dogs that are transcribed from a foreign book to an Italian book. For intra-colour pairings between single-coloured subjects, the current procedures are referred to:
one of the breeders is a champion of beauty;
both breeders are registered in the Selected Breeding register;
in both cases referred to in points a) and b), the parental assessment of all declared born puppies, with their relatives, must be carried out at an ENCI accredited DNA analysis laboratory, with costs borne by the breeder.
It is permitted to mate two dogs belonging to the "other colors" variety breed.
A subject whose color falls among those reported in the previous list and born from breeders whose varieties are single-colored will be registered in the "other colors" variety.
A single-colored dog born from "other colors" will be registered in the relevant breed variety and at the time of reproduction this dog will be able to mate freely with "other-colored" poodles, while as regards mating with solid-colored dogs, it must be subject to request authorization by providing the results of genetic tests for coat color.
Preventive genetic testing
The ENCI reserves the right to evaluate, for matings between "other colors" subjects with "single-colored" dogs and based on the progress of registrations in the studbook, the possibility of introducing preventive genetic tests to determine the permitted matings. At the request of the Cani Compagnia Club, starting from 1 August 2024 the opening of the RSR (Recognised Supplementary Register) has been arranged for the progenitors limited to the "other colours" variety in order to also include the "Italian Poodles" subjects for the which the Register established by ENCI will be simultaneously closed on the same date (source: ENCI).
