Huge damage to agriculture
“The wild boar emergency is exactly what it is, an emergency with very serious repercussions on the safety of citizens and on the maintenance of agricultural activities. We are talking about damages, for the agricultural sector alone, estimated at 200 million euros a year, which impact hundreds of families, companies and related industries. We register an accident every 48 hours and there are still those who deny the existence of a dramatic issue of public safety”. So in a note Maria Cristina Caretta of Brothers of Italy, vice president of the Agriculture commission in Montecitorio.
Number of animals to kill
“Even the European Food Safety Agency, in 2021, asked the Member States to take action to reduce the number of animals. We currently have two and a half million wild boars roaming Italy, totally out of control and in the face of a similar situation, we regret that our opposition colleagues have decided to put aside even the slightest glimmer of intellectual honesty regarding the approved measure.
Too many and out of control
I remember that the solution proposed by the friends of the left, last year, was the allocation of half a million euros to sterilize wild boars, an anti-scientific madness” Caretta affirms recalling that even Ispra “has repeatedly mentioned how the only possible solution for the containment of wild boars is killing, because they are now too many and out of control. This is what we talk about, containment, not hunting and I repeat it to distracted colleagues. We are in a scenario of overpopulation and these are precisely the contexts in which we risk losing out more than ever in terms of protecting the habitat and biodiversity”.
