Through his social profile, the honorable Barbara Mazzali, regional councilor of Lombardy (Fratelli d'Italia), updated on his work in favor of hunting: "I am moving in Region on the African swine fever. I know you all know the subject, but I explain it for those who are not familiar with our world. Swine fever is a striking disease wild boars and pigs and has a very high mortality, up to 70% in the most virulent cases. There are currently no treatments or vaccines and this is why it is important take appropriate measures to prevent an epidemic that would be dramatic for the economy of our region and for our breeders.
I therefore presented today in the Region a question with a written answer on the problems relating to fences for pig farms. The actions that should be taken are crucial in the fight against African swine fever, which unfortunately is not as far from our country as it is believed. I asked if the Lombardy Region does not consider: - to prepare a tender for farms dedicated to the breeding of pigs in order to finance the various types of fences such as: a) semi-permanent electrified fence (has the purpose of protecting medium-sized areas); b) mobile electrified fence (the mobile electrified fence is easy to handle and allows the protection of animals on small surfaces and / or remote areas, especially during night hours); c) fixed fence delimiting the farm area.
From the agricultural world there are more and more signs of concern for the excessive presence of wild boars in the area and the consequent danger of swine fever. The possibility of cases is unfortunately not remote, as evidenced by the fact that in recent months Germany has notified the first case of African swine fever on its territory. I think you all know, dear friends, what happened in Sardinia, where swine fever has brought farmers to their knees for years, killing more than 80 pigs in 121 municipalities. The latest outbreak died in September 2018, leaving the economic damage you can imagine. It is the task of the institutions do everything possible to keep swine fever at bay from our animals and that is why I am working in the Lombardy Region ”.
