Grosseto: It is Panther hunt, where catching cages have been set up today by foresters.
Massa Marittima, 08.08.0211 - Still no trace of the panther sighted a few days ago in the area of Massa Marittima (Grosseto) and photographed yesterday by two agents of the state forestry corps under some olive trees in Gretaia, south of Prata.
Tomorrow morning the mayor of Massa Marittima, Linda Bai, will sign the order, the details of which have been finalized today during a meeting coordinated by the prefect of Grosseto Giuseppe Linardi who, in addition to mayor Bai, were present with representatives of the carabinieri, of the police headquarters, the forestry corps, civil protection and wild animal experts.
This morning, in the meantime, 4 cages with meat baits were placed in the area to try to capture the animal.
Meanwhile, pending the ordinance, some provisions have already been decided that concern both the inhabitants of the area and any hikers.
Everyone is asked not to approach within 500 meters of the cages, and there is an invitation not to approach on foot, by bike or on horseback less than 3 kilometers from the area where the panther was spotted yesterday morning, and also not to stop in wooded areas or near ruins.
The hypothesis of the experts seems to be confirmed that it may be a young specimen and, perhaps, a little accustomed to the presence of man.
In fact, while attempts to capture it continue, carabinieri and police investigate to trace the possible owner who freed the panther, perhaps because it has grown too much, or to which the animal has fled.
