Contrast measures
The prefect of Parma, Antonio Garufi, chaired and coordinated today, in the hall of the Palazzo Ducale, a meeting of the control room established to implement measures to combat the African swine fever (ASF) epidemic in the province of Parma. The Extraordinary Commissioner for ASF, Giovanni Filippini, was present at the meeting.
The pillars of the strategy
During the meeting, the pillars of the strategy adopted by the commissioner's office to contain the spread of the disease were illustrated:
• containment of the wild boar population in restricted areas, through the strengthening of territorial barriers, including road and motorway arteries;
• depopulation of wild boars with the intervention of specialized teams, coordinated with army units and representatives of the hunting world;
• epidemiological surveillance in domestic pigs and wild boars, including through the establishment of viral expansion control zones;
• raising biosecurity standards in livestock farming.
Lines of intervention
"The Commissioner has outlined very clear lines of intervention that have comforted all those who have spoken and, through them, the entire territory. We therefore look with confidence at the incisive initiatives implemented, for whose success all the components present today in the control room are called to offer their active contribution", commented the prefect at the end of the meeting. The meeting was also attended by representatives of the regional and local veterinary services, the pig production sector, hunting associations, employers and trade unions (source: Ministry of the Interior).
