The legal case that characterized the Sebino Torbiere Nature Reserve, in Brescia, lasted a long time and in these first days of 2017 theRegional Territorial Office has taken its decision, that is to revoke the hunting lodges located in Lake Iseo. The hunters will be able to continue the hunting activity only on land, while the six aquatic ambushes will have to be removed.
This is a first environmentalist "victory" after the League for the Abolition of the Hunt (LAC) sent a series of complaints and reminders to magistrates to enforce the so-called Habitats Directive. However, the animal rights activists are not yet satisfied and are aiming to remove even the "terrestrial" stalking. According to the LAC itself, the legal battle is more open than ever given that the stalking from the ground would be in contrast with community laws.
The managing body of the Torbiere Nature Reserve has therefore not listened to the appeal presented by local hunters to the Regional Administrative Court of Brescia (the huts have been defined as an acquired right). The new year therefore begins with a bad blow for the Brescia hunting world, what will happen in the coming months is still to be deciphered.
