Another poacher killed because he was mistaken for a boar. Federcaccia Lazio: “Sorry, but the hunting it is quite another thing. The political problem of wild boars in parks ”.
The hunting world participates with condolence in the pain that struck the loved ones and friends of the deceased man, last December 30, during a poaching action to kill boars inside the Castelli Romani Regional Park, in the Rocca Priora area.
“But be careful”, specifies the president of Federcaccia Lazio Aldo Pompetti, “because the pain of the disappearance of a person does not automatically mean approval for what he was doing at the time of his death. The acts of poaching, which unfortunately are common in the Castelli Romani Regional Park, are in no way comparable to regular hunting ”.
The accident that caused the death of the man, a former ATAC mechanic, took place in a protected area, precluded from hunting, during an illegal hunt carried out without the due precautions that the law allows and imposes on at the same time, such as for example the use of adequate signs, high visibility clothing and, above all, the obligation of absolute immobility for post hunters.
“Unfortunately - adds President Pompetti - the phenomenon of poaching is present in most of the municipalities falling within this as well as in other protected areas. Each area of the Park has its own 'team' of poachers, who are a danger both to themselves and to other users of the environment. Among other things, some of these poachers are not even in possession of firearms, or their license has expired for some time without renewing it. The result is a general situation of danger for the community and, as if that weren't enough, at every poaching incident, 'right-thinking' voices are raised to point to the world of hunters, totally unrelated to this kind of illegal activity ".
The problem is, needless to say, a social and political one. Wild boars are in supernumerary within the protected areas of Lazio in general and of the Roman hinterland in particular. The excessive presence of these animals causes damage to crops and road accidents, with administrations unable to economically meet the claims for compensation.
"Federcaccia Lazio - concludes Aldo Pompetti - has repeatedly proposed to intervene in a containment manner, with the instruments provided for by the national law 394/91 which regulates protected areas: not only the voice of hunters remained constantly unheard by the institutions, but on we also get rid of the joke of being blamed every time a poacher commits hunting offenses ”.
