Poaching: Bergamo, a man was about to shoot a roe deer at night but was stopped by the Provincial Police.
The agents of the Hunting Fish Nucleus of the Provincial Police Corps of Bergamo, in collaboration with the voluntary hunting surveillance, discovered and foiled an attempt at poaching against ungulates. The episode took place a few days ago in Val Cavallina in the municipality of Endine Gaiano; around 23 pm the patrol of the Nucleo Ittico Venatorio, on duty for the prevention of poaching acts, saw an off-road car arrive that stopped at the edge of a lawn and, subsequently, the light of a torch that illuminated the lawn, identifying a specimen of roe intent on feeding.
The poacher armed with a firearm at this point proceeded cautiously towards the ungulate walking towards the wood, lighting up every useful area for the search for roe deer; stopped by the Provincial Police agents, the man attempted a short escape but stopped after the agents, who recognized his identity, called him by name.
Once they reached the man, the agents asked for the delivery of the weapon, which was loaded, and of the torch, contesting the violation of law 157/92 art.18 paragraph 2 for hunting in a period of general prohibition and of the article 13 paragraph 5 use of prohibited means. The subject - a fifty-year-old resident in Valcavallina - admitted responsibility for what was ascertained, denying however his interest in killing the roe deer, claiming to be looking for a fox as a species considered to cause damage - but also, in this period , protected species.
In the backpack found inside the car there were typical equipment for hunting ungulates: a skinning knife and two ropes, one of which was equipped with a pulley, and a night vision device of the type applicable to the rifle was held in a case. The weapon was therefore confiscated, a rifle fitted with precision optics and everything found.
As is known, the hunting of ungulates is based on precise rules including the assignment of the head to the hunter and, obviously, it cannot be exercised in the evening and at night. "The precious wildlife heritage of our territory, consisting of deer, chamois, ibex, roe deer, golden eagles, hawks and a multitude of other species of wildlife is threatened by these acts of poaching, which are prevented and contrasted thanks to the commitment of the men of the Fish-Hunting Unit of the Provincial Police Corps who, despite the current climate of uncertainty about the future of the Provinces and surveillance, continue their institutional activity with passion and competence ”comments the Provincial Councilor Delegate to the Provincial Police Mauro Bonomelli.
