Four hunters assigned to the Manzano Game Reserve were caught in the act of crime while they were practicing hunting in the “Torre-Natisone” protection oasis within the district of the Municipality of Trivignano Udinese, in the province of Udine. The staff of the Provincial Police of Udine caught them in the act during a recent control operation. The agents have ascertained that the four hunters have crossed the boundary with respect to the territorial area assigned to them by entering another hunting reserve and therefore in the area of the oasis (identified by the Fvg Region with the code 0802) where hunting is strictly prohibited.
Considering the seriousness of the infringement, a crime report was forwarded against the hunters to the Public Prosecutor's Office at the Court of Udine for infringing Article 30, paragraph 1, letter d) of Law 157/1992 which punishes those who practice hunting in the oasis of protection and which provides for the criminal sanction with arrest of up to 6 months and a fine ranging from a minimum of 464 euros to a maximum of one thousand 549.
The oasis established by decree of the regional councilor for agriculture, forests and mountain economy in 1972 and reconfirmed by the regional council in February 2011 (resolution 228) is entirely located in the municipality of Trivignano Udinese at the confluence of the Torre and Natisone rivers and falls within the inside the Site of Community Importance (Sic) IT 3320029 included in the Natura 2000 Network.
The operation carried out in Trivignano Udinese is part of the checks on the hunting activity that the Provincial Police of Udine carries out during the opening period of traditional hunting.
Controls concerning the most serious offenses, of a criminal nature, and administrative ones on the provisions relating to hunting. In 2012, about 2 500 hunting surveillance services were performed on the territory for a total of about 500 hunters controlled by the Provincial Police.
These investigations, together with others carried out ex officio, led to the drafting of 8 crime reports for criminal offenses and 215 assessment reports for administrative offenses. As many as 800 patrol services were arranged on Saturday and Sunday to ensure the presence of control agents on the territory throughout the year.
