Two poachers surprised and denounced by the Provincial Police while practicing fowling, one of them a Voluntary Hunting Sworn Guard.
During the control of the territory and hunting surveillance, the men of the Provincial Police of Cosenza surprised two poachers while they were practicing fowling with nets for the capture of small migrants in particular finches; one of the two was discovered to be a Voluntary Hunting Sworn Guard.
The episode took place in Ischivoti, in the Municipality of San Lorenzo del Vallo in the province of Cosenza, where the men of the Provincial Police carried out a service aimed at preventing the phenomenon of poaching; after a series of stalking the agents noticed two characters who had already placed bird nets for the illicit capture of small migratory birds from the first light of dawn.
The agents thus waited for the two subjects to load the equipment and the captured birds on their car and proceeded to stop them on board the same, proceeding to check them. During the inspection, the men of the Provincial Police found on board the vehicle, in the trunk, in addition to the illicit birding equipment, also several freshly caught birds of the goldfinch species and other specimens of the same species inside cages used as decoys; some cages were also found on board the car.
Furthermore, during the investigation it emerged that one of the two subjects was part of the Voluntary Hunting Security Guards of the Provincial Hunting Supervision Coordination, therefore one of the operators called to protect, as well as to monitor compliance with the current legislation on hunting.
The two poachers aged 58 and 74 were denounced on the loose by the Provincial Police who also immediately collected from the 58-year-old the personal identification card of the Voluntary Hunting Sworn Guard and the distinctive shovel. The net, the cages and all the birding equipment were seized while the goldfinches, still in good health, were immediately released.
