Poaching and surroundings: Genoa, the Forestale investigates hunting thefts and the 73-year-old guilty is found in possession of illegally held weapons and drugs.
A Forestry operation took place in recent days, involving personnel from the Genoa Prato and Arenzano commands and the provincial Investigative Unit, the final phase of a complex investigation into hunting thefts. The investigative starting point arose during the more complex investigations aimed at identifying the perpetrators of a series of malicious forest fires that broke out in recent years on the slope above the locality of Sciorba in Genoa. The investigations revealed the occurrence of intense poaching activity aimed at capturing wildlife through the use of a modified cage as a snap trap for catching medium-sized animals such as wild boars; the investigations of the Forestry led to the suspected poacher identifying him in a 73-year-old man living in the area not far from the place where the cage was located with previous charges for arson.
During the operation carried out in recent days, the Forestry agents were searched at the suspect's home where two unreported hunting rifles were found and the exact origin of which has not yet been ascertained, ammunition illegally held , various bags of frozen meat presumably wild boar, a frozen pheasant, two wild boar tails, various tools for slaughtering the meat and finally nine cannabis seedlings stored in a small storage room used as a greenhouse for the cultivation of marijuana as well as a container with a fair amount of marijuana inside and a precision slingbar.
All the material found, including the cage for the capture of the animals, was subjected to seizure while the man was reported for hunting theft, illegal possession of weapons, possession of illegal weapons as well as possession and cultivation of drugs.
