The president of the Province of Grosseto, Leonardo Marras, responds to the accusations of the Lac on the alleged indifference to the spread of poaching on the island of Giglio.
Giglio animal traps. President Leonardo Marras replies to Raimondo Silveri of Lac, “The territory does not need sheriffs. The provincial police are doing their job well without underestimating the extent of the problem throughout the territory and without neglecting sensitive areas such as that of Giglio. I do not accept inferences of any kind on the Province's commitment against poaching ”. Thus Leonardo Marras, replies to the considerations of Raimondo Silveri of the Lac (Anti-hunting League).
"The aggression suffered by the WWF guard at Giglio is certainly a serious fact - explains the President of the Province Marras - just as the phenomenon of the capture of animals by illegal means is deplorable, the work that numerous voluntary guards are carrying out on our territory is commendable. But be careful to respect the roles.
The territory does not need sheriffs to face and solve a serious phenomenon like this in the best possible way. Instead, it needs a strong network of subjects, who interact with each other and work always keeping in mind the final goal, which is environmental protection and citizen safety ".
"The provincial police - continues Marras - are doing their job well, without underestimating the extent of the problem and without neglecting sensitive areas such as that of Giglio. Indeed, in the last year we have implemented the exits and intensified the controls. Consequently, the seizures of illicit weapons and instruments have increased.
A complex job, since it is a question of intervening on a particularly vast territory such as the province of Grosseto. After all, the Provincial Police is carrying out this kind of activity in the fishing-hunting sector together with many other important and delicate actions such as the more purely environmental controls on human activities up to compliance with the highway code. To strengthen the effectiveness of the prevention and control action, since November we have strengthened the workforce with the hiring of another 12 temporary police officers ".
"For all these reasons, I consider Raimondo Silveri's statements offensive and damaging and even more serious that they are made - perhaps to create further alarmism - in the press, speaking of the aggression of a man, which in itself is an event to be condemned, regardless of the fight against poaching ”.
