The Arma dei Carabinieri engaged in the Vesuvian to counteract the illegal trafficking of birds of protected species which every year involves the illegal capture of thousands of birds which are then resold at exorbitant prices.
The last operation of this type was carried out by the Carabinieri of the Trecase station, in the province of Naples, who following a search at the home of a sixty-eight-year-old man they discovered about twenty birds of various protected species that were illegally detained both in the kitchen of the house and in the garage. During the search, the Carabinieri found three bird nets used by man to catch birds in the nearby Vesuvius national park.
Moreover, what is even more serious, the man held a clandestine weapon at his home, in fact, the Carabinieri found a 28-gauge shotgun with abraded serial number and some cartridges behind the front door of the house. Finally, from the investigations carried out, it emerged that the elderly poacher's firearms license had expired for about ten years.
The carabinieri have taken steps to arrest the man to answer for the possession of a clandestine weapon and at the same time to report it on the loose to answer for poaching and illegal trafficking of animals; the XNUMX-year-old was then translated to the Poggioreale prison.
As for the birds held by humans, the men of the State Forestry Corps then proceeded to free them inside the Vesuvius Park.
