Poaching and surroundings: Calabria, in the last days of the hunting season that has just ended, there was no lack of complaints and kidnappings by the State Forestry Corps.
In recent days, during the usual checks of the territory carried out by the Command Station of Sant'Eufemia d'Aspromonte, coordinated by the Provincial Command of Reggio Calabria, aimed mainly at the prevention and repression of illegal hunting, the agents have ascertained various infringements concerning the hunting regulations. The men of the Sant'Eufemia d'Aspromonte Station Command, following the instructions given by the Provincial Command of Reggio Calabria aimed at preventing and repressing poaching in areas also subject to robberies against unfortunate hunters, surprised in several operations carried out in the last days of the Hunting Season that has just ended, as many as nine subjects exercising illegal hunting activities.
In particular, in the district "Casette Pozzo - Masseria S.Giorgio" in the Municipality of Melicuccà, the Forestry agents heard several shots and, approaching the hunters to carry out the usual administrative checks, they were able to ascertain that these they were using an electroacoustic call, of the forbidden type, still in operation at the time of the check. The man, owner of the illegal equipment, a 62-year-old from Seminara (RC), was then denounced on the loose and the equipment was seized by agents. A similar situation was found in the “Caforchie” district in the municipality of Seminara, where the agents, during the ritual investigations against a 51-year-old resident in Seminara, were found in possession of an electromagnetic acoustic signal of the prohibited kind.
In the "Olivarelle" district in the countryside of the Municipality of Bagnara Calabra, the men of the Forestry, after some stalking, were able to identify and identify a 70-year-old man residing in Bagnara Calabra (RC), while with his own rifle killed specimens of finches and passerines belonging to species whose hunting is prohibited. On the same day, during a check, three men were identified and identified, one 35 years old from S. Eufemia d'Aspromonte, one 60 years old residing in Bagnara Calabra and one 43 years old residing in Reggio Calabria; the three subjects were found in possession of several freshly killed specimens of finches belonging to protected species. These three characters were also reported on the loose to answer for the crime of pursuing hunting activities with prohibited means according to law 157 of 1992. The agents also proceeded to criminally confiscate the rifles with their ammunition, the acoustic warnings found in the possession of the three reported and the specimens of wildlife killed and illegally detained.
Finally, in the same way, during three different checks carried out in the "Villaggio De Leo" area in the countryside of the Municipality of Bagnara Calabra (RC), three subjects, aged 22, 60 and 61, residing in Sant 'Eufemia d'Aspromonte while they were intent on hunting specimens of fauna belonging to protected species. Also in this case, the agents denounced the three characters in a state of freedom while their rifles with relative ammunition, the calls and the killed fauna were appropriately seized.
A total of 61 culled specimens of wild birds protected by law 157/92 (mainly finches), 9 hunting rifles, including their ammunition, and 3 acoustic calls were seized from the aforementioned activity.
