Poaching: Lombardy, the “Pettirosso” operation, an anti-poaching operation of the State Forestry Corps carried out in the Brescia valleys, has been completed.
The “Pettirosso” operation conducted by the State Forestry Corps in the territory of the Brescia valleys, Val Trompia, Val Sabbia, Val Camonica was completed in Lombardy, aimed at combating the phenomenon of poaching; numerous alleged offenses.
As every year, the Forestry has carried out an intense anti-poaching activity, which lasted about a month, on the territory between the Bresciano valleys in order to protect migratory birds, especially the protected species that pass through Italy.
The operation made it possible to detect numerous offenses concerning the hunting regulations for which, overall, more than 110 people were reported for various types of offenses including the use of means not allowed for hunting, the mistreatment of animals. , omitted custody and illegal carrying of weapons, hunting theft, hunting for protected species and even receiving stolen goods.
There were also seizures forty-five, forty electromagnetically operated acoustic signals, 177 bird nets, 618 "sepp" type traps (iron traps with spring release) and 725 small arches, a deadly type of trap made with a "U" bent twig. ”Which are triggered when the bird lands, trapping it.
On the other hand, there were eighteenth-century specimens of avifauna, both alive and dead, seized by the men of the Forestry who proceeded to free those in good health on the spot while the other more debilitated specimens were entrusted to the care of the National Center for the Recovery of Wild Fauna " The Robin ”. Among the species of birds victims of poaching in the territory of the Brescia valleys there are mainly robins, finches, brambles, blackcaps, siskins, frosoni, tits, serins and flounder.
The operation was carried out in close collaboration with the Provincial Command of Brescia and was divided into two shifts, in each of which 24 men from the NOA, the Anti-Poaching Operational Unit of the State Forestry Corps, took to the field to combat the phenomenon of poaching. and any type of violation related to hunting regulations; there was no shortage of situations at risk linked to adverse environmental conditions and the sometimes violent reactions of offenders caught in the act.
