Poaching in Lombardy, it was discussed last Friday at the headquarters of the Lombardy Region the councilor for Hunting Gianni Fava who organized a meeting between the representatives of the Brescia hunting associations and the institutional representatives, also from Brescia, of the 5 Star Movement.
This meeting was formally requested by the Grillini regional councilors in order to deepen the theme of poaching in our province, which they say is out of control. The same councilors, first signatory Gianpietro Maccabiani di Montichiari from Brescia, had presented an urgent motion to the Council immediately after the episode of illegal killing of a specimen of Hermit Ibis in the municipality of Darfo asking the Region to close the hunt in Valle Sabbia, Valle Trompia and obviously in Valle Camonica.
Fortunately, the request was not followed up also because it lacks legal foundations, not only in our opinion but also for the Region, but the need for a meeting with the major opposition force remained and therefore Councilor Fava correctly promoted the encounter. The associations were not all present and for Federcaccia the president Marco Bruni was obviously present.
The 5Stelle Movement was represented by the councilor Gianpietro Maccabiani and the parliamentarians Tatiana Basilio, Ferdinando Alberti and Claudio Cominardi. Maccabiani listed a series of data, a hundred reports contested by the Noa foresters in the month of October alone and the result of a day always alongside the Noa in Valcamonica which, according to them, brings out the image of a high rate of illegality in the behavior of Brescia hunters. Maccabiani asked what the hunting associations do to combat poaching and if they would be willing to collaborate with the institutions to identify and marginalize those who carry out illegal acts during hunting.
President Bruni said that first of all Federcaccia has eliminated all forms of legal protection for those who use prohibited means, and therefore we are talking about traps networks and electromechanical recalls. We also promote training courses for federation hunters and initiatives in schools of all levels for the promotion of hunting culture.
The killing offenses of prohibited species are a minimal percentage of those raised to our members and are often a legacy of the typical traditional Brescia hunts for small migratory hunts. It is only with cultural evolution that it can lead to a decrease in illegality; at the same time, however, it is essential that it is possible to recover traditional forms of hunting today confined to illegality.
There is a long way to go and we have not denied the will for dialogue. Intellectual honesty in comparison, however, must be reciprocal and the argument is not "hunt yes or hunt no" but which hunt for the future.
