Poaching: Messina, caught catching quail with bird nets, 71-year-old man denounced.
The phenomenon of poaching and in particular the practice of fowling to capture migratory birds passing over Italy is very widespread in the spring period in the Messina Strait area; more sought after are the species of passerines and especially Cardellini. Other particularly sought-after birds are the Quail which begin to arrive for summer nesting in the internal areas of the island.
Yesterday, Sunday 19 April, in the Messina Sud area, during a service aimed at combating the phenomenon of poaching, the Forestry Corps of the Sicilian Region and the hunting guards coordinated by the Faunistico Venatoria Department, surprised a 71-year-old man while it captured quail and other birds with the help of bird nets and an electromagnetic acoustic call.
The man was reported on the loose for fowling and illegal use of electromagnetically operated acoustic bird calls. All the birding equipment, consisting of the electromagnetic call and about six hundred square meters of birding nets, was seized by the Forestry agents.
