Poaching in the Pesaro area. Four poachers were discovered and denounced by the Carabinieri of the Forestry Group who have effectively crushed the illegal trafficking of birds of prey organized between the Marche and Tuscany.
The four criminals took the "pulli", the chicks of the Peregrine Falcon (Falco peregrinus), directly from the nests and then saw them again at a high price for fans of hunting with the falcon; an illicit trafficking of birds of prey in an area between Urbino and Arezzo to which the Carabinieri of the Forestry Group of Piobbico, Pergola, Carpegna and Macerata Feltria, coordinated by the Investigative Unit of the Forestry and Environmental Police of the Pesaro and Urbino Group, have put an end at the end of an investigation started about a year ago under the direction of the Public Prosecutor of Pesaro.
The operations were carried out as part of a broader campaign of control and intensification of the anti-poaching activities and in particular the investigation activity was carried out with an assiduous monitoring of the territory in the municipalities of Urbinate up to the neighboring province of Arezzo. with numerous searches that allowed the kidnapping of "Pulli" and various electronic instruments.
The four poachers are being investigated to answer for various violations of Law n.157 / 1992 on the protection of homeothermic fauna and hunting, ranging from hunting in a prohibited period to the capture and possession of particularly protected species.
The illicit activity of taking birds of prey from the nests represents a criminal act under various profiles, from animal welfare to the compromise of the environmental balance due to the subtraction of super predators, at the top of the ecological pyramid which causes repercussions up to the base of the pyramid itself. Violations of CITES, the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species, are also not to be excluded.
