Poaching: Hunting in the Alta Murgia Park: two poachers reported. A 34 year old and a 35 year old from Palo del Colle, were surprised in the middle of the night by the Forestry in the locality of Lama Reale, in Ruvo. In their car a shotgun and numerous large lead cartridges, normally used for wild boar hunting.
Two men aged 34 and 35, both from Palo del Colle, got into trouble, denounced by the State Forestry Corps for illegal carrying of a common firearm in a public place, introduction of a weapon and hunting exercise in the Alta Murgia National Park ( both activities prohibited as it is a protected area) and the crime of resisting a public official, for having fled after the halt ordered by the Foresters. The two were intercepted in the locality of Lama Reale, in the countryside of Ruvo di Puglia, while they were on board a small car, “in a clear hunting attitude”, explains a note from the State Forestry Corps. "The car proceeded with the lights off, so much so as to make the Forestry patrol suspicious, which, when the flashing lights turned on, ordered a halt". The two, however, tried to escape, giving rise to a chase that lasted until the foresters stopped and checked the car.
A loaded hunting rifle was found in the cockpit, together with numerous large lead cartridges, normally used for wild boar hunting, and a halogen headlight set up for attachment to the weapon.
