With the start of the hunting season, the State Forestry Corps - Territorial Coordination for the Environment of Altamura and the dependent Station Commands have intensified the controls to protect the wildlife heritage. On this front in recent days, staff of the CFS Station Command of Ruvo di Puglia, engaged in a targeted service put in place not only to protect the territories of the Alta Murgia National Park where hunting is strictly prohibited, but also on the areas adjacent to the latter, they intervened in the locality of “Torre Mascolo” in the countryside of the municipality of Corato. Here in the early hours of the morning they surprised two individuals dedicated to hunting with the aid of an electromagnetic acoustic call in damage to specimens of migratory birds of the species "quail". Given the sector regulations, the use of this call, which allows easier approach and killing of the fauna, is not allowed as it is an illegal and therefore penalized hunting exercise.
The agents thus subjected to the seizure of two rifles, various ammunition as well as the aforementioned acoustic warning, referring the 2 individuals, both residing in Corato, to the Public Prosecutor's Office at the Court of Trani. For the Chief Commissioner coordinator dr. Giuliano Palomba "the commitment of the men of the CFS as a force specialized in environmental protection is of fundamental importance for the protection of the fauna often harassed by illegal collection activities".
