Poaching in Reggio. The services to combat crimes against wild animals by the Forestry Carabinieri in the province of Reggio Calabria continue unabated. Despite being closed for some time, the hunting and the controls on poaching of migratory species have been intensified for months, prepared by the Forestry, Environmental and Agri-food Protection Unit Command of the Carabinieri, for the repression of hunting offenses.
As part of this territorial control activity, the men of the Anti-Poaching Operational Unit surprised and reported a subject intent on illegal hunting in protected species and mostly within the Special Protection Area called "Costa Viola".
In a moment of the day when a notable step of Honey Buzzards (Pernis apivorus) was observed in transit for the usual migration to the breeding grounds of Northern Europe, the military noticed from afar a subject intent on shooting in the open countryside with a shotgun just to some Hawks flying over the area.
At this point the Carabinieri Forestali, after a complicated maneuver to approach the place where the gunshots had been exploded, surprised and managed to block a 64-year-old man living in Reggio Calabria, who, stationed behind a thick hedge of prickly pears in the locality of "Casalotto" di Catona di Reggio di Calabria, which was waiting in a clear hunting attitude with a loaded and loaded rifle.
After the ritual investigations, the poacher was denounced on the loose for violations of the hunting regulations based on Law 157/92, while the hunting rifle with relative ammunition found in the possession of the arrested subject was subjected to criminal seizure.
Given the persistent migratory flows and the resurgence of poaching acts that days ago had led to the arrest of three subjects blocked while they were intent on firing a rifle with abraded registration number, the anti-poaching service was prolonged and intensified.
