I run the risk of repeating myself, but I also want to remind you that the performance of a hunting rifle, expressly designed for long-range shooting, basically depends on the perfect combination of some factors: the accuracy of the weapon, great brand and suitable ammunition. Often a fundamental accessory is left out so that everything, perfectly matched, becomes an instrument of extreme precision: the mounts for the telescope.
Until a few years ago, for their purchase we had to turn to a few US or German brands and the choice was limited to only two or three models. Companies such as Redfield, Burris, Leupold and Lyman have always produced very reliable and low cost steel couplings, but unfortunately of the fixed type.
They have been, and still are, the most used models on bolt-action rifles, where once the scope has been mounted, its removal is not foreseen. But for more specialized weapons, such as semi-automatic rifles or express rifles, which can be used both in action, with rear sight and front sight, and during aspect hunts using a scope, or mixed tilting weapons, which require the removal of the optical instrument in order to use the smooth barrels, the attachment must be easily removable and that it maintains the calibration of the optics unchanged once it has been reassembled on the gun.
To have such an attack, the choice was limited to only two models: the so-called "crowbar", the result of the Suhl gun school or the pivot Eaw by Ernest Apel. Two excellent products, but certainly not low in price and especially the first was not easy to assemble, since it had to be welded on the weapon.
Today, however, thanks to the tenacity and resourcefulness of a small Gardonese company, different types of quick release attachments of excellent quality are available, suitable for being mounted on all the most common weapons in production. This firm is the Poli Nicoletta & C. by Daniela and Roberto. Born in 1975, it originally produced small metal parts for weapons and only marginally a model of attachment for optics inspired precisely by the Apel pivot. Later, thanks to the success of that product and to the growing and unexpected demand, an entire range of attachments and accessories was conceived and marketed, which today has several models. In addition to the classic pivot, called European, it is probably one of the most widespread and famous attacks in the world, characterized by the rear foot that fits with a cam operated by a self-adjusting pawl, Poli builds another model: the Bavarian which, derived from the Blaser system, is the natural evolution of the predecessor. It keeps all the exceptional technical peculiarities and construction characteristics unaltered, differentiating itself exclusively for the even more practical and robust release system. The tightening of the rear coupling takes place by rotating a knurled ring nut that tightens a mobile nail against a fixed one. Both leading products are produced entirely with modern numerical control machinery, using specialized personnel and high quality steels. Their proverbial sturdiness and the very high precision of the joints allow the optics to be disassembled and reassembled while maintaining the initial calibration.
Unlike the other removable bindings, those of the Poli are completely adjustable and allow you to compensate for any play that could arise with years and years of use. They are available with 1 ”(25,4mm), 26mm and 30mm diameter rings. Daniela and Roberto also produce a series of fixed and semi-fixed attachments, i.e. easily removable by loosening one or more screws, with integral one-piece bases capable of equipping any weapon with a scope, even if no longer in production for years or very recently. release (like the new Benelli Argo carbine). Who does not remember the legendary Beretta Olimpia model? The .22 lr rifle that made school in the shooting ranges of half of Italy. It was used for the practical test by those who had not done military service, but needed the shooting certificate for the hunting license and as a starting point for many aspiring competitive shooters. Many will remember that it was impossible to mount a particular aiming optics, because the mounting system chosen by the well-known Gardonese company only provided for the adoption of a type of telescope supplied by Beretta itself and certainly not of great quality. Now that the Olimpia, Sport and Super Sport model rifles have an almost collectible value, the Poli company builds for them a monolithic steel attachment suitable for accommodating one-inch tube optics. Even firearms equipped with a rib or one-piece rail with 14 or 16 mm dovetail milling, rifles or pivoting, thanks to Nicoletta's mounts can mount any optical instrument. As already mentioned, they are all exclusively in burnished steel, but on order, Poli is able to build particular pieces and also in high-strength aluminum alloy.
In Italy there are mainly three forms of hunting with a rifle: hunting in the high mountains, selection hunting and driven hunt. With the first technique removed, which does not allow for compromises, selection hunting and batting “could” also be practiced with a single weapon. If you do not expect particularly long shots, a semi-automatic rifle, a combined or a medium-caliber express can easily be used both to hunt roe and fallow deer and driven wild boar. It is clear that our weapon will have to be equipped with an aiming optic or with an electronic pointer according to the use we want to make of it. Recently Roberto Poli has put on sale some bindings able to satisfy this need. They are, in fact, equipped with fixed bases and two pairs of rings of different diameters: 1 ”and 30 millimeters.
To give an example, once the bases have been fixed on a semi-automatic rifle, it is possible to mount either a scope or a red dot, depending on the case, in a few seconds. This feature allows those who own, or who want to use, a single weapon to practice more forms of hunting. Erredi trading has recently been added to the original name of the company, from the initials of the two owners. This new company, in addition to the production of mounts for riflescopes, ribs, rear sights and sights, muzzle brakes and flash hiders, chokes and conversion kits in .22 lr caliber for the most common semi-automatic pistols on the market (Beretta, Colt, Sig) has also ventured into the production of a nice smooth-bore folding single barrel available in calibers 6, 8 and 9 flobert and 36 (.410 magnum) and the distribution of optics and accessories. The prices of the products of the Poli company are in line with the times and I would dare to say competitive in relation to the quality of the products. Today the company is considered among the top three manufacturers of optical attachments in the world, yet another pride of Made in Italy.
Mark Benecchi
Good evening.
I wanted to know if you have mounts for compressed air rifles, in my case a Diana 50. The one that was sold to me with the scope, a few years ago, does not hold and after a few shots slips back and makes me raise the scope .
Thanks for your attention and best regards
