A wild boar killed hunting near the Apennines in the province of Frosinone, precisely in the territory in the municipality of Atina, tested positive looking for Trichinella larvae. The measures are in place to trace the meat to be destined for destruction. Trichinosis is a parasitic disease characterized by the presence of infecting larvae in the muscles of animals. Transmission to humans occurs exclusively via food, through the consumption of containing meat the parasite larvae.
In Italy, the vehicle of transmission is pork, almost exclusively from wild boar subject to hunting, or equine in the case of horses or meat imported from Eastern Europe. For this reason, all animals of the swine species, domestic and wild, and equine before being consumed are compulsorily tested to exclude the presence of parasites.
In the Province of Frosinone, thanks to Memorandum of Understanding existing between the ASL and the ATC Associations, even wild boars killed during the hunting season are tested. The avoidance of this obligation exposes the consumer to the contagion of parasitosis, which represents a serious disease for humans (Casilinanews.it).
