Lorenzo Colomb, mayor of Cesana Torinese (province of Turin), asked the Piedmont Region to close the hunt in the Upper Susa Valley due to the difficulties encountered by the wild animals after the snowfalls of these days. The mayor relied on the weather conditions, recalling how the fauna is again exhausted after the autumn fires.
In December the fallen snow would have exceeded a meter, a situation that prevented the animals from moving around and looking for food. The blocking of the hunting activity would therefore serve to facilitate the recovery of the fauna and the intervention of the environmental wildlife service. However, Colomb did not say he was 100% opposed to hunting, explaining that he wanted to give priorities, as the wild would not be able to escape hunters with this snow.
The National League for the Defense of the Dog (LNDC) approved the initiative, asking other municipalities to follow the example of Cesana Torinese. The latter municipality can boast less than a thousand inhabitants and rises to 1350 meters high: it is located inside a basin that is "protected" by Mount Chaberton, in the part where the Piccola Dora flows into the Ripa stream.
