Verification and feedback
Scientific research, real research, is essentially based on doubt. Verification, feedback and confirmation represent an integral part of the research itself which, inevitably, tries to make the information truthful and usable. observations acquired. Over the years, little by little, we are trying to realize the innate desire to know and understand some distinctive traits of animal behavior. Ours is dedicated to the Scolopax rusticola, the beloved and coveted prey, the woodcock.
Data and information to be acquired
As far as we are concerned, for the sake of passion, prevailing the cultural and cognitive principle intended for the conservation purposes of the species, we consider it of absolute priority to acquire data and information that can help the understanding, strengths and weaknesses of the species in the face of the anthropic pressure to which is subjected. Given this, we welcome the opportunity to share the real-life traits of a young male woodcock equipped in winter 2022 on the Salento coast.
Useful Information
Well, after having carried out 3 complete migrations and having flown for approximately 14.000 km, wearing a satellite device weighing approximately 12 g, it still provides, almost in real time, very interesting data and information useful for the knowledge and management of the species. The latest transmissions place SALENTO about 30 km from the original site and reference point for our observations.
Some reflections: Historical memory, the referenced ability to identify and settle in the same known and lived areas, places the woodcock at the attention of the scientific world. The proclaimed and recognized loyalty to the native area (philopatry) can today, thanks to modern technology, be improved and deepened. We are therefore happy to be able to live thanks to the role assigned to our passion and offer our emotions the pleasure of "living and flying with it".
Beyond hunting and harvesting, the sense of considering oneself an integral part of knowledge and balance (source: FRIENDS OF SCOLOPAX).
