As announced by the section of Brescia of Italian Federation of Hunting, also this year will need a careful wildlife monitoring not only for research but to protect human health. They are not uncommon pathologies that have arisen in our country and in Europe and in recent years. One of these is the Wild Nile Desease (West Nile Virus), a non-contagious infectious disease that afflicts several birds.
Birds become infected by the mosquito bite, therefore, the virus tends to be transmitted in wild populations and can transfer from mosquitoes to humans. Some species, first of all magpies, crows and jays, are more involved and one of the few effective tools is the early identification of virus entry.
Precisely, the virus must be sought in certain birds, especially sedentary species: in addition to those already mentioned, the hooded crow can also be added. This is why Federcaccia Brescia underlined the surveillance to be carried out on these birds, a strategic and fundamental activity. THE hunters who will take down the crows during the pre-opening they will have to send the carcasses to the Experimental Zooprophylactic Institute of Lombardy and Emilia Romagna for careful analysis in the laboratory.
