The arrival in Brussels
The president of the Province of Bolzano, Arno Kompatscher, reached Brussels yesterday to participate in the week of sessions of the European Committee of the Regions (CoR). The Committee of the Regions will deal, among other things, with the theme "Crisis prevention and management: strengthening the resilience of the Union and its regions and cities", on which President Kompatscher will speak.
An intense two days
Furthermore, during his two-day stay, the president will meet several politicians and senior officials of the European Commission. The program includes an exchange with the European Commission Vice-President for Democracy and Demography, Dubravka Šuica, and with the European Commissioner for Financial Programming and Budget, Johannes Hahn.
Greater push on wolves and bears
At the top of the list of priorities for a stay in Brussels is the question of the bear and the wolf, said the president in the press conference following today's (May 23) session of the Provincial Government: “As I have been doing for years – for example in a meeting with the then President of the European Parliament Antonio Tajani in 2017 I will underline that the presence of large predators in their current population is no longer compatible with our civilized life. Action at the European level is also urgently needed to downgrade the protection status of these species and finally allow regulation of the populations“. This is already the case for many other protected species. President Kompatscher will also have the opportunity to reiterate this position on Wednesday evening at the event “The challenges of wolf management in the EU - with a focus on Alpine regions“, which will take place at the Brussels representative office of the Euregio Tyrol-South Tyrol-Trentino (source: Province of Bolzano).
