There are almost a thousand wild boars that have been culled from June to today in province of Como. The data speaks volumes: we are talking about 915 specimens, of which 755 killed by hunters (especially in the Alto Lario) and the remaining 160 by the Provincial Police. A total of this kind represents a real record, especially when compared with that of the nearby province of Lecco (just 180 wild boars).
The emergency must therefore be dealt with quickly, despite the fact that local politics believes that the numbers are also the result of a fair approach to problem of ungulates. Como and Lecco are two provinces sharing the same situation: according to the data made available by Coldiretti, in twelve years the wild have caused damages for 1,2 million euros in the Como area and most of these devastations were caused by wild boars. Another not very comforting data is that relating to road accidents involving ungulates. They are in fact more than 300 a year and an important "contribution" to the claims was also made by deer and roe deer.
