The Province of Ravenna, through an official note, has clarified once and for all about the problem of the surplus of fallow deer that is affecting the territory of its competence.
"In recent years" reads the note from the Province of Ravenna, "the population of fallow deer has reached the number of over 200 specimens that have sought new territories to feed themselves, occupying neighboring naturalistic areas such as Ortazzo and Ortazzino, the Pineta Ramazzotti, and other areas of the Po Delta Park. In the search for new territories, the population of fallow deer, which has become so numerous, has confined to the land of farms, causing extensive and documented damage.
At the same time, the fallow deer have become a danger to traffic, as their crossing of the Adriatic road has caused several accidents, these too documented ”. These reasons have pushed the Province of Ravenna, in full contrast with the animal rights activists, has established the killing of 67 specimens, on the recommendation of both Ispra and the Po Delta Park Authority, in relation to the interventions planned within the Natura 2000 Network site of competence. Selection hunting, that is the hunting practice governed by precise laws in force, represents an effective tool for controlling the population of wildlife, in order to avoid harmful overcrowding of a specific species, which could cause serious problems for agriculture and the species. itself.
Many scientific studies have confirmed that by carrying out selection hunting in a specific geographical area, it allows the conservation of the faunal balance, which is fundamental for the preservation of the territory and of the wild species themselves. The Province of Ravenna specified that: "In these territories the population of fallow deer and ungulates in general is monitored and selected also in the plains. which the Park or other Bodies should plan events on the territory concerned ". Obviously, the private individuals who will be called upon to implement these controlled abatements are provided with precise authorizations.
