Hunting in Puglia: Hunting open in derogation to the Storno. The Region approved the text in order to limit the damage caused by starlings to agricultural crops.
The regional council approved, in the session of 14 December 2010, on the proposal of the Regional Councilor for Agri-food Risosrse Dario Stefàno, the "Levy in derogation "of the type"Cancellation"(Sturnus vulgaris).
The final text of the provision, prepared in compliance with the provisions of LR n. 30/2007, implementing the state legislation n. 221/2002 and Directive 79/409 / EEC, took into account, among other things, the technical opinion expressed by the Regional Wildlife Observatory, issued pursuant to art. 3 paragraph 1 of the aforementioned regional law, after consulting the Regional Wildlife Hunting Technical Committee.
"The excessive and uncontrolled proliferation of the starling - explains Stefàno - risks damaging and compromising some of the most valuable crops of our agriculture, including that of the olive tree which sees the harvesting phase in this part of the year.. For this reason, after hearing the opinions of the Regional Wildlife Observatory and the Regional Wildlife Hunting Technical Committee, we considered it appropriate to adopt the measure, strongly requested and expected by farmers, forced to deal with this problem as well ".
In particular, the levy by way of derogation, for the 2010/2011 vintage, will have beginning on Sunday 19 December 2010 and ending on 30 January 2011. It can be carried out, by temporary posting, on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays and only in the territories intended for planned hunting in the provinces of Brindisi, Foggia and Taranto.
The abatement plan allows the removal of 20 items per day, for a maximum of 200 items per year, for license holders.
