Circa 40 volunteers and technicians of the park authority: these will be the protagonists of the ungulate census that will have to be carried out within the Alta Murgia Park, the Apulian natural area located in the provinces of Bari and Barletta-Andria-Trani. The count must be updated, without forgetting the selecontrol that will be entrusted to the Forestry Carabinieri, involving the contiguous areas.
The park authority has decided to intervene in this way to face the emergency represented by these ungulates. The agricultural sector, in particular i producers of cereals and legumes in general they are in extreme difficulty. However, the same park in Puglia has asked for the collaboration of the institutions, otherwise it will not be possible to obtain tangible results in solitude. The management plan of the species is being updated with containment strategies brand new.
The park authority recalled the measures taken in recent years, in particular the catches and the creation of the meat supply chain, despite a series of difficulties linked to health rules. Once the census has been completed, we will proceed with the self-control, also asking for the intervention of hunters who have their residence in the park. Finally, the plan aims to implement a national strategy for wild boar management between the National Association of Italian Municipalities (ANCI) and Federparchi.
