The “10a Goose Festival ", from 28 June to 8 July 2012.
Born for fun by a group of local friends, eager to rediscover and make known the ancient peasant traditions that were disappearing, the Corbara Goose Festival soon established itself among the most significant gastronomic events of Orvieto, recalling every year fleets of gourmets and admirers of simple and genuine cuisine.
The choice of the goose as the protagonist animal of the event draws its origins from the ancient custom of cooking this bird to celebrate the end of the threshing: once the wheat harvest was finished, the different owners gathered around a table set to consume a lavish banquet which included goose roasted in traditional wood-burning ovens as a main dish.
With the abandonment of traditional threshing methods and the advent of modern machines for harvesting wheat, all the rites and habits associated with this agricultural activity have also disappeared; despite this, the roast goose has remained one of the typical dishes of this area.
The Goose Festival takes place in Canino in Corbara, a fraction of the municipality of Orvieto and is organized by the Cultural Association "Il Giglio", which, every year, manages to involve over one hundred people, including inhabitants, natives of the place and friends residing in other municipalities, all ready to give their precious contribution for the full success of the event.
From June 28 to July 8 (except July 2 and 3) in the green countryside of Orvieto every evening you can taste typical dishes based on goose that refer to the local peasant traditions: pappardelle, tagliatelle, gnocchi with sauces of goose, goose alla cacciatora, roast goose are some of the dishes on the menu, and for those who are not fond of goose there are alternative dishes based on pork.
On the evenings of 2 and 3 July, on the other hand, given the success of the past few years, there will be the "Free-cut steak festival", you can choose the size of the steak which will then be cooked on the grill and eaten instantly.
Every evening shows with orchestras, karaoke, Latin American, fashion shows. As done in previous years, the proceeds from the event will be donated to charity to local and non-local bodies and / or associations.
