The traditional "Wine Festival" of Gallinaro (FR) returns for its 19th edition on 13 and 14 August 2012.
The "Sagra del Cabernet and local wines", better known as the "Wine Festival" in Gallinaro, in the province of Frosinone, is repeated for the nineteenth consecutive year on 13 and 14 August 2012.
The festival is the food and wine event that characterizes the town of Gallinaro and was born as a party between friends in the country, in the 80s, when a group of winemakers and lovers of good wine arrived by tractor in the historic center of Gallinaro, offering everyone present the local wine collected from the producers of the country. The party was so popular that it was revived in the following years, until in 1994, when it had acquired a certain identity, it assumed the character of a festival.
Since then, every year, on August 13, Gallinaro changes its face, the tuff cellars are revitalized (about 35), the food and wine stands are prepared, the squares are transformed into stages, street artists and jugglers animate the tourists, and then, kids, grandparents, music, fun… and a lot of Cabernet wine. The Sagra has brought attention to the production that has always characterized Gallinaro, viticulture, forgotten for years. Wineries were born and the typical wine of the territory, Cabernet, was promoted, so much so that in 1999 it obtained the recognition of the DOC brand.
The appointment with the Cabernet festival is now a fixed date in the panorama of initiatives that see the Lazio winemaking reality as the protagonist. The intent is always to enhance the product by offering the market quality and innovation without forgetting the other typical products of the area such as oil, cheeses and typical dishes of the Val di Comino tradition.
Since 1994, Gallinaro has been organizing the event that focuses on one of the most loved resources of the agricultural world in the valley, cabernet wine. The Atina Doc includes two red wines that are produced in the territory of a dozen municipalities in the province of Frosinone. It is a wine with rather recent origins. Its birth, which took place around the mid-nineteenth century, is in fact linked to the planting, by an agronomist, Mr. Visocchi, of Cabernet and Merlot vines in the territory of the municipality of Atina, in the center of the Val di Comino . He planted some cuttings of Cabernet and Merlot on the alluvial marl of the Atina territory, after having learned many secrets of enology in France. The particular climatic conditions have favored its development and given the excellent quality of the grapes with an even more careful processing it is destined to reach ever higher goals.
All the inhabitants of the small town participate in the initiative which attracts people from all over the region. Each room and many houses on the ground floor are transformed into cellars that generously fill the glasses of the many "thirsty". All this until 23pm. Then everyone on the dance floor to "dispose of" that glass, dancing and sweating, or maybe two or three too many. The program includes a day dedicated to tasting the excellent DOC wine of the area. To the delight of visitors, throughout the event the cellars of the town remain open for tastings of typical products, music, dances, songs, traditional shows with folk groups and many other surprises. For a day entirely dedicated to Bacchus, we are waiting for you on 13 and 14 August 2012 in Gallinaro (FR).
